Professional Teeth Whitening

One of our most common cosmetic dental procedures is teeth whitening, aimed at lightening and brightening the color of your teeth. In-office whitening can typically be completed in just one to two appointments, depending on the severity of discoloration and desired results. Each session lasts approximately 90 minutes.

Professional vs. Home Whitening

Teeth whitening products primarily use carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide. These agents release oxygen molecules that break down stains on teeth. Unlike whitening toothpaste, which uses abrasives to remove surface-level stains, professional whitening products penetrate deeper for more effective results. Over-the-counter (OTC) whitening strips and kits also contain peroxide, but they use lower concentrations and aren’t as potent as professional treatments. In our office, we ensure your comfort and safety by protecting your gums with a rubber dam during treatment.

In-Office Whitening Appointment

  • During your appointment, your dentist will assess your current tooth color using a shade chart. You’ll discuss the potential shades your smile can achieve after whitening.
  • For the next 24 hours following treatment, it’s essential to adjust your lifestyle to maximize whitening results. Avoid brightly colored foods, as well as substances like red wine and coffee, which can stain your teeth more easily during this period.
